(JW Insights) Nov 7 -- James Zhang, founder and CEO of Moore Threads - the Chinese AI startup that was recently placed by on US entity list, tried to keep his employees' moral by writing a letter to them, saying that "there is no darkest moment for Chinese GPUs, only a bright future and vast potentials like stars and seas at a time when challenges and opportunities coexist."

James Zhang founded Moore Threads in October 2020. Before that he was the former global vice president of NVIDIA and general manager of China. Beijing-based Moore Threads is a fabless semiconductor company engaged in the GPU design business.

In his letter, Zhang listed Moore Threads' achievement of completing three full-featured GPU chips based on the self-developed MUSA architecture in the third anniversary of the company.

"There are many challenges, and there is a long road ahead. Moore Threads is committed to building China's best full-featured GPU, and we will carry this undertaking to the end, and nothing will affect our determination to continue," added Zhang.

On October 17, 2023, the United States launched a new round of export restrictions, which placed Moore Threads and dozen of other Chinese AI companies on the entity list. The sanctions also restricted the sale of Nvidia A800 and H800 chips to China. Moore Threads issued a statement opposing the US move on the same day.
